About us

our leader:

A proud native of Historical Charleston, South Carolina, received his early education in the Charleston County District #10 Public Schools. Upon graduating from St. Andrew’s Parish High School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Francis Marion College (University). The Gammon Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia, conferred the Master of Divinity, with concentration in Sociology of Religion and Christian Education, upon him. He has done further studies at Erskine Theological Seminary and in May of 2007 received the Doctor of Ministry in Sociology of Religion from ITC. While in pursuit of his doctorate, he served as teacher assistant teaching Sociology of Religion courses. He continues to educate others in higher education as an adjunct professor of humanities and sociology at Strayer University, Augusta, GA.

Dr. Givens is a great visionary who in 1993 established the Prayer, Praise and Worship Centers of America, Inc. In 1998 he organized the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Camden, SC and in 2008 led this aggregation of people in completing phase one of their nearly 2 million dollar building project. Dr. Givens presently provides guidance to the ministries who are members of the PPW Fellowship. Previously, he served five years as a pastor in the SC Conference of United Methodist Church before launching the PPW Fellowship.

As a licensed funeral director, Dr. Givens was humbled to serve as the principal organizer for the funeral services for Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama. In addition, he led the coordination of the logistics for the official NAACP delegation at the funeral services for Coretta Scott King. At the passing of civil rights leader Dr. Benjamin Hooks, Givens was again called upon to provide leadership as the Logistical Director and Organizer for his funeral services in Memphis, Tennessee. As the world sat in despair at the execution of Troy Davis, Dr. Givens was called upon again to serve. He led in the logistical coordination of Davis’ funeral service in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Givens also serves as a certified grief counselor and lends his gift when called upon.

Dr. Givens believes in ministry beyond the walls of the church and believes that the church is the empowering force for the people of the village. Givens is a builder of people who bridges the gap between cultural awareness and spirituality. Bishop Allen H. Simmons, International Presiding Prelate & Chief Apostle of the Sounds of Praise Pentecostal Fellowship Ministries and their Executive Board of Bishops acknowledged the anointed apostolic gifting of Dr. Givens as a builder of people and designated Dr. Givens to be consecrated Bishop in 2012.

Dr. Givens is affiliated with a wide range of civic and social organizations, some to include: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Life Member); SC District Board of Alphas; Southern Regional Board of Directors, Suburban Lodge #213 Free & Accepted Masons, P.H.A.; Booker T. Washington Consistory #250; Unity Chapter #370, Order of the Eastern Stars; 100 Black Men of America, Inc.; and Concerned Clergy of Kershaw County. Dr. Givens is the proud father of one son, Kendall Givens Little, married to the former Cortney McIntire
